Ipromptu Seminar

The World Kenpo Championships in Jersey Channel Islands didn't end until after midnight on Saturday, March 29th. The Grand championship bouts had still to be fought on Sunday. Jersey also - sprang forward - on Saturday losing another hour and disorienting all the visitors. So, it's not unusual that a GLITCH might have occurred. However it happened, Sunday afternoon came with no one to cover a seminar for children White to Green (some brown belts attended) ages 8 to 10 years. Professor Richard Matthews, the seminar coordinator, called on Mr. Mark Brosten (an associate of www.yourkenpo.com ) and Mr. Martin McGoulin (Kenpoworks, an associate of Professor Matthews) with only 5 minutes before the seminar --- could they cover it? The answer was YES! Pulling out his trusty notebook for a seminar topic, Mark consulted with Martin and Do Not Be Led --- Control you attacker's height zones (Posture Strategy) was chosen. Mark and Martin worked with 24 children ages 8 to 11 White to Brown Belts. Most spoke some English, others some Dutch or Flemish, some spoke only French.

Success Measurement --- After 50 minutes all children could say (in English), Control the attacker's height zones and had 3 or more tactics that they could use to achieve that strategy.

Interviews --- Casual interviews were conducted with 2 sets of parents who had observed the seminar. All four people were well satisfied with the instructors' presentation of the topic, their ability to get it across and make it fun for the children.

Accountability partner/observer/ interviewer --- Dennis Lawson

Corrective adjustment --- Both Mark and Martin need to survey the entire group more while they are working with individual groups.

Congratulations to Mark and Martin on their first International seminar!!!
Well Done!!!
